Samia Suluhu Hassan, serving as the sixth and current President of Tanzania, is the first fernale Head of State in the country’s history.
Previously, she served as the Vice President of Tanzania from 2015 to 2021, and following the death of her predecessor, John Magufuli, she ascended to the presidency of the United Republic of Tanzania on March 19th, 2021.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan was born on January 27th, 1960, in Zanzibar.
She completed her secondary education in 1977 and commenced her professional career in 1986, she graduated with an advanced diploma in public administration from the Institute of Development Management (today known as Mzumbe University).
Between 1992 and 1994, she attended the University of Manchester and obtained a master’s degree in economics. In 2015, she earned a master’s degree in Social Economic Development through a joint program between the Open University of Tanzania and Southern New Hampshire University As a native of Zanzibar, Suluhu held various governmental positions, from 2000 to 2005, she served in the Ministry of Youn Employment, Women and Children of Zanzibar, from 2005 to 2010, she was part of the Ministry of Tours Trade, and investment of Zanzibar, and from 2010 to 2015, she held the position of Minister of State for Union Affairs in the Office of the Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania.
