Makamba calls for economic projects at grassroots levels

TANGA: THE Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation and Member of Parliament for Bumbuli Constituency, Mr January Makamba, has emphasised the

significance of ruling CCM party wings designing and carrying out incomegenerating projects to assist members in becoming economically self-sufficient and improving their livelihoods.

Speaking at a meeting with Bumbuli Constituency and District Council leaders, as well as the general public, recently, Mr Makamba challenged the CCM party wing leaders to design ward-level projects, promising to provide seed funding for the initial project.

Mr Makamba said he is willing to commit seed capital funds totaling 108m/- to begin projects in each ward for the Youth Wing, UVCCM, Women’s Wing, and Parents’ Wing. Each ward will receive 6m/- (2m/- per wing within each ward).

There are 18 wards in Bumbuli District Council.

Minister Makamba committed the funds after being asked by party wing leaders to assist them in becoming financially selfsufficient.

“Bring your proposal. We will go through them together before providing the seed capital of 2m/- for each ward,” he pointed out.

He said that the fund would supplement those who already have projects, but those who do not will have to submit new project proposals.

However, he warned that the projects should benefit all members rather than just the leaders.

Speaking at the meeting, Hamis Abdalah Shekiogha, the Secretary for CCM in Vuga Ward, urged the minister to assist the Parents’ Wing in establishing their projects to improve their lives.

He claimed that the wings had been forgotten, even though they were the guardians of all wings.
