Hungary foreign minister arrives in Dar

DAR ES SALAAM: HUNGARIAN Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó arrived in the country on Wednesday for a two-day official visit.

According to the Director of Government Communication Unit in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East Africa Cooperation, Ambassador Mindi Kasiga, the visit is aimed at enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation between the two nations.

Ambassador Kasiga said the Hungarian Minister and his host, Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, January Makamba would host bilateral meeting before signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in water resource management.

“Tomorrow (today), the two ministers will hold bilateral meetings, culminating in signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Tanzania Ministry of Water and the Ministry of Interior of Hungary on cooperation in the field of water management.

The agreement will open a new chapter of collaboration between the two nations. Mr Szijjártó will also meet with Minister for Defence and National Services, Dr Stergomena Tax.

Hungary’s engagement with Africa, including Tanzania, has been revitalised in recent years, with a clear strategy to strengthen political and business ties on the continent. For decades, Tanzania and Hungary have been enjoying good relations.

Hungary’s technical assistance to Tanzania is focused on education sector, in particular the provision of scholarships for Tanzanians to study in Hungary.
