DAR ES SALAAM: PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has called upon communication service providers to set reasonable internet prices for users to
access digital services without obstacles.Speaking during the “Future Ready Summit” organized by Vodacom Tanzania in Dar es Salaam on Thursday, the Premier, representing President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the event, also advised telecoms to improve their services in rural settings to enable all citizens to enjoy communication services, including streaming and accessing different social media platforms.
“For telecoms, set reasonable internet costs for more citizens to access digital services,” the PM said at the well-attended event.
Mr. Majaliwa welcomed the private sector to cooperate with the government in investing in digital communication technologies for the country to be in a position to adapt to changes influenced by the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) around the world.
On his part, Minister of Information, Communications, and Information Technology, Mr. Nape Moses Nnauye, allayed fears among Tanzanians regarding the emerging Artificial Intelligence (AI), as many fear that their jobs would be taken away by the innovation.
“Let me take this opportunity to assure Tanzanians, these revolutions are inevitable. We must embrace them, and it is our responsibility to prepare ourselves through investing in skills development to move forward since we don’t have an option,” Nnauye said.
Amid the technological changes, Nape added, one of his department’s tasks is to formulate enabling policies to accommodate them, as he kept insisting to the PM that: “Tanzania is ready to move forward with this revolution.”
