Persons with Disabilities may soon start enjoying banking services following plans by Stanbic Bank.
The financial institution recently made a commitment of creating friendly environment to Persons with Disabilities.
Speaking at a plenary on the ongoing Civil Society Week, the bank’s Head of Sales Global Market Amal Baziad said such groups, particularly the visually impaired face challenges when accessing banking services.
“When it comes to banking services and products, people with disabilities often feel underserved, if we are thinking of revolutionizing financial inclusion, we also need to bring all people on board,” she said.
Ms Baziad underscored the need of financial institutions to accommodate People with Disabilities, in the spirit of financial inclusion.
In the same vein, the Head of Sales Global Market emphasized the role of technology in enhancing services of financial institutions.
According to Ms Baziad, with digital payments, online banking, analytics, and reporting, banks can prepare much better investment opportunities for each individual.
“We’ve witnessed a revolution through instant payments and this is what Fintech entails,” she explained.
She however expressed concern on the sheer low number of Tanzanians who had access to Fintech.
She said: Only 22 per cent of Tanzanians are conversant with Fintech, it is only through partnership that we can bridge such a gap.
Benjamin Mkwizu, a risk Assurance expert from PwC challenged CSOs to embark on serious advocacy in advancing the financial inclusion agenda.
“You ought to push this agenda forward so that individuals and businesses have access to useful and affordable financial products and services,” he urged.
The session explored the potential of technology to revolutionize financial inclusion, exploring how digital innovations can bridge economic disparities and empower previously underserved populations.
Organized by the Foundation For Civil Society(FCS), the theme of CSO Week 2023 – “Tech and Society, Now and Beyond” – aims to explore the dynamic relationship between civil society and technology, bringing together CSOs, policymakers, technologists and other stakeholders.
