Dar es Salaam. It is a shoulder season for the tourism industry in Zanzibar and there is plenty of good news.
Zanzibar’s Kendwa Beach has been ranked fourth best beach in the
world by travel magazine Big 7 Travel in a survey that ranked White Beach, Port
Barton, in the Philippines as the best destination in the world.
The list which features some of the 50 best beaches in the world
is now in its fifth year shows that Zanzibar is punching alongside the best in
that category.
The review used aggregated scores from previous media results,
official Blue Flag locations, social media popularity and contributions from
the Big 7 Travel editorial team, to rate the most amazing beaches to visit this
year.
Located in north Unguja Big 7 Travel apart from other factors the
magazine says that despite Zanzibar being a haven of white sand beaches, Kendwa
piques is in a different league.
“The blinding white sand melts into the emerald waters – a
picture-postcard sight. The beach is lined with hotels, restaurants, and bars,
but it’s kept pristine and clean. Sip on fresh coconuts, get a massage, or
enjoy a cocktail in one of the beach shacks,” writes Big 7 Travel.
Close to home the only beaches that made it on the top list is
Kenya’s Diani beach which featured on number 14, whereas Source D’Argent in the
Seychelles came close on the sixth place.
One the decision to rank White Beach, Port Barton said it is a
pristine gem with hammocks, powdery white sand, kayaks to rent, and of course,
crystal-clear water.
The rating of Kendwa Beach among the elite beach destination comes
at a time when Zanzibar’s tourism in industry is on the verge of a rebound
after it was ravaged by the pandemic for almost two years.By Paul Owere & Agencies
