Central Africa Republic adopts bitcoin as legal currency


The Central African Republic, the second least developed country in the world according to the UN, has adopted bitcoin as its official currency alongside the CFA franc. It is legalising the use of cryptocurrencies, the presidency announced, claiming it is the first country to do so in Africa. Yet parts of the population have no access to the internet and many Central Africans do not yet know what cryptocurrencies are.
