Don advocates Adoption of entrepreneurship, skill acquisition to tackle unemployment

Nigerian youths have been urged to embrace entrepreneurship development and skills acquisition to get out of unemployment.


     
The Vice-Chancellor, Igbinedion University Okada (IUO), Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, gave the charge in Okada, Edo State during the institution’s 9th Entrepreneurship Programme (EP’s) Exhibition and Trade Fair, a project of the 300 level students of the institution.

Ezemonye said entrepreneurship development and skills acquisition are key to national development, urging the over 739 students of the 2021/2022 academic session graduating from the institution’s entrepreneurship and skills acquisition centre to ensure that what they garnered are affordable and available. He noted that the entrepreneurship development process helps new firms or ventures get better in achieving their goals, improving business and the nation’s economy. 

The vice-chancellor added that the combination of knowledge and skills acquisition has made the institution’s graduates most sought after as they leverage on industry-academia interface before graduation, and are better prepared for life after graduation following several classroom coaching and training, which enhances entrepreneurship development and knowledge. 

He noted that a total of 6,218 students have so far undergone entrepreneurship and skills acquisition training while in their third year as part of the institution’s curriculum at promoting entrepreneurship development and skills acquisition.
         
“The role of the University in fostering entrepreneurial culture amongst students and staff is critical to national development. Entrepreneurs have the power to shape the world by developing versatile skills and profitable business schemes needed for human development,” Ezemonye said.
