THE government has developed a blueprint for regulatory authorities responsible for standards, food and drugs, a move that will curb hierarchical structures which business operators encounter while setting up businesses.

The revelation was made here yesterday by the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr Ludovick James, saying the blueprint was vital for improving the business environment.
“The government is finalising the procedures for crafting a strategy for facilitating the implementation of the blueprint,” said the Deputy Permanent Secretary while opening a workshop on Business Environment Reforms in the country.
The two-day workshop, which was organised by the Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (TCCIA), brought together senior officials of the chamber from across the country to be enlightened on negotiation skills, lobbying and advocacy.
Mr James informed the participants that the blueprint, which was endorsed by the Cabinet two months ago, has outlined responsibilities for regulatory authorities, namely Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) and Tanzania Food and Drugs Authority (TFDA).
“Following endorsement of the blueprint, TFDA and TBS have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Previously, there were interactions of responsibilities executed between the two regulatory authorities,” observed Mr James.
Mr James said the blueprint was among the fruits of good cooperation between the government and private sector, saying the plan had addressed a number of challenges in the sector.
On his part, acting President of TCCIA, Mr Julius Kaijage, expressed gratitude to the government for the blueprint, saying it was a panacea for challenges that business operators faced.
“We are grateful to the government for its commitment to create a conducive business environment,” said the acting TCCIA president.
Regarding the workshop, Mr Kaijage said five papers would be presented at the two-day event, citing some of the papers as Changing Landscape of Private Sector Organisations: Opportunities for Collaboration and Coordination.
He mentioned other topics as Business Environment Reform Initiative-Roadmap and Blueprint: How best can TCCIA position itself in implementation?, Essential Good Practices for Governance of Private Sector Organisations and Public-Private Dialogue Framework in Tanzania: How best can TCCIA position itself?
The Dodoma Regional Executive Secretary for TCCIA, Mr Iddi Senge, said the training workshop was very important for business operators in Dodoma, saying it would equip them with knowledge on negotiation, advocacy and lobbying.
“This will help us in tapping business opportunities resulting from the government’s relocation to Dodoma from Dar es Salaam,” he said.
