Kenya Airways has invited qualified aircraft
engineers and technicians to apply for the positions left vacant after
the national carrier sacked at least 140 staff for participating in a strike.
KQ
has placed an advert in the media, stating that the deadline for
application for the positions is December 15, indicative of the speed
with which the carrier wants the positions filled.
A
section of KQ's technical staff are demanding their pay be adjusted
upwards by up to three and a half times to match Middle East carriers, a
move the airline's management has ruled out.
Kenya
Airways Wednesday evening sent termination letters to the striking
employees who have now threatened to go to court in protest.
“Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for
the following job opportunities – engineers and technicians,” the
airline says in a newspaper advertisement.
“For detailed role profiles, please visits our website and apply online. Deadline for application is December 15.”
KQ
says the prospective engineers and technicians will be responsible for
carrying out inspections and repairs on its aircraft and systems.
