Two held over examination fraud

TWO people are being held by the police here for allegedly being involved in a cheating scam during the ongoing National form four examinations.

The Kagera Regional Police Commander (RPC), Augustine Ollomi, named the suspects as Ashraf Amin Kaitaba, (16), a form three student from Bukoba secondary school, and Amin Amin Kaitaba, (24).
According to Mr. Ollomi, Ashraf Kaitaba was arrested after he presented himself for the civics examination paper. “At around 7.40 am during morning inspection before the exams started, Ashraf was arrested before entering the examinations room.
Upon being asked by invigilators for his identification, he mistakenly identified himself as Amin Amin Kaitaba, his older brother who was registered as a private candidate”, he said.
He said the offence was committed at Nshambya Teachers’ College (NTC), in Bukoba Municipality, adding that the two suspects would be arraigned in court once the investigations completed.
Mr. Ollomi strongly warned students, parents and guardians to avoid cheating during examinations.
“Such cheating and other forms of misconduct have negative effects on the nation’s development, because we could ultimately have unqualified professionals, including doctors, lawyers and engineers”, he said.
Some 385,938 students have registered with the National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA) to sit for the national Form Four examinations which started on Monday.
About 18,000 students in Kagera region were registered to sit for the national exams.
