TPDF chief reiterates achievements so far

THE Chief of Defence Forces of the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF), General Venance Mebeyo, yesterday affirmed that the force has recorded a big number of achievements, the major one being maintenance of peace and harmony since the country’s independence.

In line with that, Gen Mabeyo asked Tanzanians to support TPDF as they tackle their roles especially in ensuring continued peace and harmony in the country. He said that the force was still very strong and will always strive to maintain peace according to the nation’s constitution.
Gen Mabeyo made the statement in Dar es Salaam yesterday during the celebrations to mark 53rd anniversary of TPDF. He said that the country’s military force has played a vital role in rallying and maintaining peace in various countries in the world.
Among the countries that TPDF played a major role in bringing peace includes Liberia, DRC, Sudan (Darfur), Lebanon, South Sudan and Central African Republic.
According to Gen Mabeyo, TPDF supported the mentioned countries among others in providing rescue and social services. He said that TPDF was still committed to continue providing support to the countries especially in ensuring stability and peace. TPDF was also involved in fighting for Southern African coun tries, Kagera and Comoro wars.
On the other hand, Gen Mabeyo said that the commemoration TPDF day was of fundamental value to them and the general public. He conveyed his thanks to President John Magufuli, ministers and the public in general for continued support to TPDF.
The celebrations to mark commemorations of the 53rd anniversary of TPDF kicked off in August 25, this year and came into climax yesterday.
