PRESIDENT John Magufuli and first lady, Mama Janeth yesterday joined the faithful at Magomeni Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church for a holy mass.
The Head of State has on several
occasions joined fellow Tanzanians from a range of denominations, where
he has constantly prayed for the country’s peace, stability and
prosperity.
The President joined the faithful in a
holy mass that was led by the Archbishop of SDA Church in Southern
Tanzania Union Mission, Mark Walwa Malekana, Bishop Joseph Mgwabi and
Bishop Albert Nziku.
Speaking shortly after the service, Dr
Magufuli lauded the church for a job well-done in serving the faithful
and the nation in general. He said the government recognises the
church’s contribution and that it will always cooperate with them in
bringing development to ‘wananchi’.
“I would like to thank you very much Arch-Bishop for your preaching that touches most of us.
All religious institutions, including
the SDA Church contributes a lot to the development of this nation, we
will always stand with you in bringing about development in the
country,” said the Head of State. President Magufuli gave 5m/- and 400
bags of cement as his contribution to the construction of the Magomeni
SDA Church.
He also provided 1m/- to all the choirs
related to the church. The President conducted a fund-raising exercise
for the construction of the church, where a total of 25.3m/- was
collected.
Former Director General of Prevention
and Combatting of Corruption Bureau (PCCB), Dr Edward Hosea and former
Minister for Agriculture, Food Security and Co-operatives, Mr Stephen
Wassira, were among the people who participated in the fund raising.
The Arch-Bishop Malekana said the church
recognises President Magufuli’s contribution and that it will continue
to pray for him and the nation at large.
“On behalf of the church, we promise to
keep praying for you (President). We surrender you and the government
that you lead unto the hands of God,” he said.
