POLICE in Rukwa Region are looking for a man who disappeared together with his wife and children from Chawe area in Mbwendi Village of Nkasi District after allegedly spearing to death a traditional healer, Revocatus Kngalaga (47).
The Rukwa Regional Police Commander (RPC), Mr George Kyando, confirmed that the fugitive, his wife and children, fled the village shortly after he committed the crime in question. The RPC vowed that no stone will remain unturned until the suspect is arrested and arraigned.
He added that police are in possession of the weapon (spear) that was used by the suspect to murder the traditional healer.
“Before the grisly incident, the suspect was often heard accusing the medicine man of having an intimate relationship with his wife and warned him if he failed to break the relationship he will teach him a lesson,” added the RPC.
The son of the now deceased traditional healer, Mr Simon Kanjalanga told the ‘Daily News’ that an unknown assailant threw a spear that pierced the back of his father who died shortly later. According to Mr Simon, the grisly incident occurred at Chawe area in Namanyere Town in Nkasi District at around 7:30am on Thursday.
He pointed out that his father was speared to death while riding his bicycle in the area. Meanwhile, a passenger died on the spot while 13 others sustained severe injuries after a bus they were travelling in veered off the road and overturned at Ikondamoyo Village in Mpanda District, Katavi Region along the Mpanda –Tabora highway.
The Katavi Regional Police Commander (RPC), Mr Damas Nyanda, said the dead passenger was identified as Paul Mussa, a resident of Meatu District, Shinyanga Region and that the 13 wounded passengers have been hospitalised at Mpanda Hospital.
Narrating the road carnage, the RPC said the driver of the ill-fated bus christened Ally’s with registration number T 473 CCC, Joshua Benedicto (45), fled from the scene of the accident.
The RPC said that preliminary investigation show that the source of the accident was speeding and recklessness on the part of the driver.
