THE government has thanked the UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) for its support in helping Tanzanians in the fight against poverty through various programmes.
For almost two decades, UNCDF in
partnership with the President’s Office, Regional Administration and
Local Government, has been working with local government authorities to
implement the Local Finance Initiative (LFI) Programme for economic
empowerment.
Speaking at a workshop of key
stakeholders in Dar es Salaam over the weekend to discuss Kalemawe
Commercial Fish Farming Project and the Kalemawe SPV Company, Permanent
Secretary in President Office, Regional Administration, Engineer Musa
Iyombe said the partnership has helped to accelerate local economic
development.
He emphasised on participatory
engagement of all stakeholders to have a common understanding of the
roles and responsibilities. In a speech read on his behalf by
Kilimanjaro Regional Administrative Secretary Engineer Aisha Amour
Iyombe, Engineer Iyombe said the Kalemawe Project, which is the
collaboration of Same District Council with Ndungu and Kalemawe
administrative wards, local NGOs and development partners, will
ultimately serve Same residents.
He called on participants in the
workshop which focused on issues of ownership, institutional and legal
framework, governance, rehabilitation technical issues and commercial
fishing to fully commit their energies to realise the benefits of the
project.
Participants who earlier visited the
commercial fish farm at Ruvu for familiarisation tour welcomed the
project and called for execution of the programme.
Same District Commissioner Rosemary
Staki who has been championing the public private partnership in owning
and managing the economy said the district is ready to implement the
project, proposing the company’s ring fencing against dirty politics.
The company which is a part of the
Kalemawe project undertaken by UNCDF in collaboration with other
stakeholders intends to embark on a combative intervention to
rehabilitate the dam and the irrigation canal.
