He said there is need for media to
increase coverage on farming, fishing and livestock keeping for people
to easily understand what is going on in agriculture, fishing and
livestock sectors. According to Mr Nape, the increase of coverage in the
sector will enable farmers and other stakeholders to expand markets.
“Media must ensure that they increase
coverage on agriculture, fishing and livestock sectors, this will help
to improve performance in the sectors and boost the country’s economy,”
he said, adding that the media coverage on agriculture related matters
will broaden farmers’ knowledge on various issues in the sector.
The Minister also urged farmers to use
the ongoing Nanenane exhibitions to learn and gain experience in
farming, livestock keeping and fishing activities. “President John
Magufuli is insisting on the industrial economy, there are already
initiatives to revive and establish new industries in the country.
All these industries need raw materials
from agriculture, fishing and livestock sectors... the media need to
feed people with crucial information on the issues related to
agriculture production, livestock keeping and fishing,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Nape paid a visit to the
Tanzania Standard Newspapers Limited (TSN) pavilion and applauded the
company for maintaining professionalism in its coverages. He urged TSN
to promote online publication to reach more people. TSN information and
communication technology (ICT) expert Prosper Mallya said online
publication enables the company to easily reach people in and outside
the country
