MOTORCYCLE accidents in the country have decreased from 30 per cent to 25 per cent, the National Traffic Commander, DCP Mohammed Mpinga, has confirmed.
Mr Mpinga said this in Dar es Salaam
during an event to receive leaflets for motorcyclist training on road
safety measures prepared by Puma Energy Tanzania. “One of the main
factors have helped to see the reduction is frequent trainings conducted
by traffic police in collaboration with other stakeholders,” he said.
According to statistics, Mr Mpinga said
that a total of 224 motorcyclists’ accidents occurred in May compared to
the 225 which happened in April, this year. In another development, Mr
Mpinga commended Puma Energy Tanzania for the support that would help
supplement the government’s efforts in observing road safety.
On the other hand, the General Manager
of Puma Company, Mr Philippe Corsaletti, the support was part of the
company’s commitment to ensure road safety for motorcyclists in the
country.
The company also offers road safety
education to various primary schools in the country. According to Mr
Corsaletti, the company’s vision is to ensure that all government
primary schools in the country are covered by the programme
