GGM Public Relations and Communication Manager, Tenga Tenga, said in Dar es Salaam that the number of participants in the campaign has more than doubled to 100 compared to 40 last year.

‘Kili Challenge’ was initiated 15 years ago by GGM in collaboration with TACAIDS and other stakeholders and last year they managed to raise over 800m/- .
The 2016 Kili Challenge will be graced by former president, Dr Jakaya Kikwete and closed by the Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner (RC), Mr Said Meck Sadiki.
“The funds raised in the period of 15 years when ‘Kili Challenge Fund’ kicked off have contributed immensely in reducing the HIV/AIDS prevalence in the country through support to governmental and non-governmental institutions involved in the fight against the pandemic,” he said.
He said 50 participants in the ‘Kili Challenge’ will climb to the pick of Mount Kilimanjaro while the other group will be riding bicycles across the country for almost the whole week of the campaign from 16th to 22nd of July, this year.
He said there is increased awareness among within and outside the country on the campaign that has attracted more participants to ensure the three zeroes, which is zero in new HIV/ AIDS cases, zero in death due to AIDS and zero in stigma.
TACAIDS representative Mr Dickson Peter said this year’s Kili challenge will see also the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) country representative taking part in the campaign.
He said the collections made every year in the challenge have helped in the construction of new centres in various parts of the country that are crucial in providing various services pertaining to HIV/AIDS, particularly awareness creation.
