MMG Gold is expected to start mining operations at Seka village, Musoma District, Musoma Region on September this year.
The Mineral and Energy Minister Prof
Sospeter Muhongo said this during his visit to the mining site to
inspect the progress where he was informed that the construction has
reached 95 per cent.
“Earlier, the mining was scheduled to
commence operations before end of June but was pushed back due to some
inconveniences,” he said.
The Deputy Commissioner for Minerals in
the Lake Victoria Zone Mr Juma Sementa said the progress reached by the
investors in developing the MMG Gold is satisfactory thus granted permit
to extend period to start operations.
“I am convinced with the progress
reached and the speed of developing the mining project with the hope of
kick starting operations come September this year,” he said.
On his part, Seka village chairman Mr
Kanunu Ruhumbika said although the mining project is yet to begin
operations, the investors have started providing social services like
water to the villagers.
“After commencing operations, investors
pledged to construct dispensary, house for the doctor, secondary school
and road rehabilitation,” he said.
