THE Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) has appointed former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete, the centre’s Goodwill Ambassador dealing with agriculture development in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific.
CTA is under the European Union and is
headquartered in Wageningen, Holland. According to a letter handed to
the former president by a CTA board member, Prof Faustin Kamuzora, the
former Fourth Phase Government president, was appointed in recognition
of his enormous contribution and endeavours in developing the
agriculture sector in Tanzania and African continent at large.
CTA has requested Kikwete to represent
the centre in different international conferences and address the
potential of agriculture in creating decent employment for youth and
women in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific.
He will also be giving press interviews
in addressing the issue in various countries. The retired president
pledged that he will cooperate as requested by CTA.
Prof Kamuzora, who is the Permanent
Secretary in the Ministry of Works, Communication and Transport, is a
CTA board member representing East African countries from 2013 to 2018.
CTA has a mandate to facilitate access
to and dissemination of information in the fields of agriculture and
rural development in 78 countries in Africa, the Caribbean and the
Pacific.
