Students from 50 public and private universities will converge
in Nairobi next month in a two day event where they will showcase
problem solving innovations that could be commercialised.
The event dubbed Enactus Kenya will also play host to 100 astute investors from across the globe keen on clinching business deals with the 3,000 students who have confirmed their planned participation in the regional event.
Enactus Kenya country leader James Shikwati said preparations had been finalised and 60 professors have confirmed their attendance to exchange ideas on how academic research can be monetised.
Mr Shikwati said the fete, now in its 14th year and which will be hosted at the KCB Leadership Centre, will culminate in a competition to select regional representatives to the Enactus World Cup in Toronto, Canada in September.
He said the event will also identify a university team with the highest impact on community outreach to represent Kenya in competitions in Canada.
“We want them to discuss topical issues that impact on business and the future of Kenya in a bid to seek permanent solutions to real problems. Competing teams will showcase the type, quality, depth and impact of their community empowerment outreach projects while business leaders serving as judges in designated leagues will determine which Enactus team will be named the 2016 National Champion to represent the country,” he said.
Topical issues on challenges facing different industries and how to address them will also be discussed by business leaders and consultants selected from various industries in the country at the fete.
“We want a forum where students, lecturers and business leaders converge to share knowledge and form collaboration platforms for the academia to engage business leaders on what needs to be done to improve the business climate,” said Mr Shikwati.
He added that Enactus Kenya has been holding annual activities in the past 13 years among them leadership trainings, team buildings, on campus events, thematic events, annual national business and entrepreneurship competition and mentorship programs.
Enactus Kenya (then SIFE Kenya) was launched in 2003 and brings together 30 colleges and universities and currently has 3,054 members with the sole aim of igniting the entrepreneurial spirit to shape a better, more sustainable world.
