Zanzibar transfer board ‘useful’

ISSA YUSSUF in Zanzibar
MEMBERS of the Zanzibar House of Representatives have been informed that the presence of ‘Land Transfer Board (LTB)’ has been useful in minimising land conflicts in the Islands.

“The board, whose roles include acquisition has been doing good job as people have been using it,” Ms Salama Aboud Talib, the Minister of Land, Water, Energy, and Environment, informed the House yesterday.
The statement was in response to the question asked by legislator Jaku Hashim Ayoub (Paje) who wanted to know the benefit of the board since its formation in 2009 under ‘Land Transfer Act, No. 8 of 1994; Amendment Act, No. 10 of 200.’
Ms Talib said members of the board have been working hard in addressing land disputes by also encouraging good neighbourliness, fixed boundaries, and land registration, as some of the main steps towards a dispute free enjoyment of tenure rights
