Ms Ritha Mlaki, one of the worshippers, told the ‘Daily News’ in Dar es Salaam that under Dr Malasusa’s leadership the church’s ministry has reached out to so many people. She said the number of worshippers has gone up.
“The church has also played a key role in promoting social development by establishing several higher learning institutions,” said Ms Mlaki during a Thanksgiving service at the Eastern and Coastal Diocese.
Ms Mlaki, who once served as Deputy Minister for Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development during the third phase government, pointed out that Dr Malasusa’s leadership witnessed peace prevailing among the worshippers.
Engineer Harold Temu, another worshipper at the Eastern and Coastal Diocese, said Dr Malasusa’s leadership saw the church’s ministry extended to outside the country. He said the ELCT has established dioceses in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
“He was an integral part of the church in the country and outside the country as he became deputy Chairman of the Union of Lutheran Churches in the world and Chairman of the union in Africa,” he said.
Speaking during the Thanksgiving service, Dr Malasusa expressed gratitude to the ELCT leaders and congregation for maximum cooperation during his leadership, noting that the maximum cooperation facilitated church’s activities.
“I am grateful that during my eight-year period God has tremendously promoted peace to all our 24 dioceses,” said the Bishop. Dr Malasusa will remain Bishop of Eastern and Coastal Diocese comprising Dar es Salaam, Morogoro and Coast Region. He has been replaced as Head of ELCT by Bishop Dr Fredrick Shoo.
Dr Shoo, who is also the Bishop of the Northern Diocese, was chosen last year at ELCT General Meeting in Arusha
