Vodacom’s Managing Executive, Corporate
Affairs, Ms Roselynn Mworia, said in Dar es Salaam that the investments
took place in health, education, social welfare, gender equity and women
empowerment.
In addition, Ms Mworia said the
company’s capital investments over the period of 2012/13 to 2014/15 was
664b/- into modernising its network to single RANs. She said the capital
investment led to the increasing quality of services and reducing
communications cost.
“The additional economic activity
realised as a result of this investment included 287b/- added to the
GDP, representing 0.2 per cent of Tanzania GDP and Sustained about 560
direct jobs and 800 indirect jobs,” she noted.
Basing on the report released, Ms Mwori
said that Vodacom’s increasing presence and resulting increasing revenue
in the Tanzanian market has assisted in contributing positively towards
economic development through its contributions to the mobile industry.
On the other hand, Ms Mwori said that
the company continued investment in communities will assist in reducing
unemployment, poverty and improve people’s lives.
“This will also support economic growth
through the upliftment of communities and poverty elevation. In
addition, Vodacom throws its full support behind the realisation of the
Tanzania Development Vision 2025 and its objectives,” she said
