THE outgoing Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner (RC), Mr Saidi Meck Sadiki, has advised his successor, Mr Paul Makonda, to work closely with Regional Religious Leaders Peace Committee to find solutions to the challenges facing the region.
In case of lack of peace at any place, development projects cannot be implemented,” Mr Sadiki said in Dar es Salaam yesterday as he bade farewell to the committee. As the committee’s patron, Mr Sadiki said the committee has a significant role in the region’s development thus the new RC should work closely with it to help him in his dayto- day activities.
“I would like to advise the new RC who, by virtue of his position is the Chairperson of the Regional Security and Defence Committee, to use the committee in combating crime and rise to the various challenges facing the region and in planning development projects,” he advised.
On behalf of the guest of honour at the function, Retired President Ali Hassan Mwinyi; Mr Abdullah Mwinyi said what has been achieved by Mr Sadiki should not be wasted. “In other countries, there are non-stop religious conflicts. But it is different here.
Religious leaders are working together for the country’s development. This should be applauded,” he said. On his side, Mr Makonda vowed to work closely with the committee, urging members to help him in his development endeavour and challenges facing the region.
To support his efforts, the committee members promised to contribute 150 desks in advance to reduce the shortage of desks in the region.
At the same occasion, Mr Sadiki was presented with the Holy Quran while Mr Makonda was presented with the Holy Bible and broom by the Chief Sheikh of Dar es Salaam, Alhad Musa Salum, who is the committee’s chairman
