Switching off ‘fake’ phones not meant to hurt people-Sadiki

DAR ES SALAAM Regional Commissioner (RC), Said Meck Sadiki said that the move by the government to switch-off all counterfeit mobile handsets this year is not meant to oppress the people but rather to ensure they have quality products.

He said the exercise will help combating counterfeit and sub-standard handsets that have flooded the local market, protect consumers from substandard phones and safeguard mobile payment system.
Mr Sadiki made the remarks in Dar es Salaam as a guest of honor during the launch of Huawei Experience Shops and Phone Care Center at the city center. “Tanzania will be taking the cue from neighboring Kenya, which has so far switched off more than 1.5 million fake phones and the crusade continues,” he said.
According to Mr Sadiki, Huawei experience shops will be an opportunity for customers to ensure that they are purchasing genuine Huawei devices.
At the same occasion the Director of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Sector in Tanzania, Mr Peter Philip said following the launching of the shops, Huawei has proven its ability to satisfy their customers need in great reliable quality product and efficient services.
The country Manager in Charge of Devices at Huawei, Mr Peter Zhangjunliang said this move is in response to the growing demand for Huawei devices in the city and to ensure genuine Huawei products and services are easily accessible to customers.
He said the phone care center is managed by highly trained and experienced technical staffs from Huawei, who are capable of advising customers on best device solutions and options.
“We will also offer aftersales services to customers including assistance from specialized technicians on handset maintenance and devices. We have launched the phase of where we are ready to make our presence felt all over Tanzania,” he said
