THE Ministry of Energy and Minerals through the Rural Energy Agency (REA), plans to launch the third phase of its ambitious rural electrification programme, Parliament was told yesterday.
Energy and Minerals minister, Prof
Sospeter Muhongo, said the agency has been instructed to provide a
implementation report of the first and second phases that will provide
the roadmap to the third phase.
He said the report on the REA projects
will be discussed at a meeting to be held between February 6 and 7.
During the planned meeting, the minister said various stakeholders will
assess the progress registered in the implementation of the rural
electrification project.
“It is the government’s plan that all
villages in the REA projects get connected to the grid within the
specified time,” he said, urging Members of Parliament to support
government initiatives.
Prof Muhongo asserted that the third phase of the project will go alongside the second phase ventures that near completion.
