Mwanza RC underscores environment cleaning

NASHON KENNEDY in Mwanza
MWANZA Regional Commissioner (RC), Mr Magesa Mulongo has said he will not tolerate any council or municipality which offers tenders to incompetent and unprofessional contractors.

Mr Mulongo made the remarks here when talking with Municipal councils’ officials on the ongoing environment cleaning exercise. Expounding further on the issue, he told the meeting that some of the bidders recruited were lacking needed experience and capacity.
“Each of us should be aware that the environment cleaning exercise is a sustainable one and we have to treat it seriously as it is a national agenda,” he underlined.
Any bidder, he said, who offered the job he or she must evaluate himself/ herself, if he or she is capable of executing the work. “The contractor or a bidder who was awarded a tender and discovered that he or she does not have sufficient equipment for doing the work, the directors of the concerned districts or municipalities and city will be accountable.
He said there have been some cases whereby some of the bidders during the bidding process, assured the concerned authority that they had adequate equipment for doing the job, but later to be found with few or weak equipment.
He said the government wants to see all parts of Mwanza region including its district councils and the city council’s environment clean.
The RC reiterated his appeal to the general public in the region to turn up and participate in the environment cleaning exercise.
He said that on February 27, bus drivers, bajaj, motorcycles and other vehicles will not conduct any movement as from 6.30 am in the morning up to 9.00 am in the morning to throw the whole weight in the cleaning exercise.
“For the buses travelling to other regions, they will not be affected by the cleaning exercise as the journey begins at 6.00 in the morning,” he elaborated.
