THE Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Mr Nape Nnauye, has urged the media fraternity to observe professionalism and diligence in disclosing misconducts in the government system.
Mr Nnauye made the call in Dar es Salaam
yesterday during a meeting with Tanzania Standard Newspapers (TSN)
Limited staff in his second visit at the office in one week.
“TSN should be in the forefront to
disclose impropriety in the country to support what is being advocated
by the fifth phase government’s President John Magufuli,” said Mr Nnauye
whose meeting aimed at addressing various challenges facing the company
and workers’ grievances.
He directed ‘Daily News’ and ‘Habari
Leo’ not to act differently from the government’s new pace in revealing
issues of greater public interests. “We want our papers to be leaders in
the fight against malpractices which have been going on for a while in
the country,” he noted.
He also reassured TSN of maximum
government support, to make it lead by example in terms of
professionalism and integrity and address all challenges facing the
company.
The minister called on journalists not
to censor themselves with general reporting, instead venture into
various specialisation to add value to their reporting, taking into
consideration the market demand.
Earlier, the Chairman of Researchers,
Academicians and Allied Workers Union (RAAWU) TSN Branch, Mr Oscar Mbuza
pointed out that during the minister’s first visit at the company on
Monday, he held talks with the management, the Board of Directors and
also had chance to speak with the workers’ union and took him through
some of the challenges. “After having heard the workers’ union concerns,
he thought we had a point and pledged to allocate time and meet the
entire staff. As a reminder to the workers that there’s no right without
responsibility, respect and strong commitment in attaining own and
company goals,” he said.
He called upon the Board to put more
efforts in implementing their tasks in attaining greater effectiveness
and productivity in the newspapers.
The Acting Managing Editor, Ms Tuma
Abdallah, acknowledged the many challenges that afflict the organisation
and pledged to work closely with the minister to address them
