THE new CT-Scan machine that was installed at Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH), in December last year was originally designated for the Benjamin Mkapa Ultramodern Hospital of the University of Dodoma (UDOM), the government admitted yesterday.
The Deputy Minister for Health,
Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children, Dr Hamisi
Kigwangalla, told the Parliament yesterday that the decision was reached
following the crisis that arose at the MNH.
According to the Minister, as the
procurement was underway, a new machine for the UDOM hospital arrived in
the country and the government decided to relocate it to national
hospital where there was an urgent need.
“It was a critical moment, and MNH which
is serving patients from all corners of the country needed a new
machine. There was no way but reallocating the Udom machine to
Muhimbili.
The good thing is, when the machine which was designated for Muhimbili arrives it will be directly sent to UDOM,” he said.
The deputy minister was responding to a
question by Chemba MP Juma Nkamia, who wanted the government to publicly
admit that the second CTScan that was installed in MNH was a property
of UDOM, and queried when the government will buy new machine for MNH.
Dr Kigwangalla also told the parliament
that the new machine has a capacity of serving 40 patients a day and the
government is now assured that the service will not be missed even for a
day.
“There are two operating machines right
now. However, we’re not expecting that the days of miseries at MNH are a
thing of the past.
