UNDP boss upbeat with Singida projects

UNITED Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Representative in the country, Mr Alvaro Rodriguez has expressed his satisfaction over the implementation of various projects which were funded by the UN Agencies in Singida for the past five years.
He noted that all the projects that he visited in the region were implemented appropriately and according to the intended purposes.
He made the remarks when he paid a courtesy visit to Upendo Poultry Keeping Centre at Puma village in Ikungi district which is being run by a group of People Living with AIDS, a beekeeping farm at Kisaki area and the cholera combating camp at Mandewa area in Singida municipality.
Speaking at the project sites, Mr Rodriguez commended the community for their dedication and for taking ownership of the projects; noting that the measure would ensure the sustainability of the projects.
“I also congratulate the government for promoting a conducive environment for the sustainable development and for the achievement made so far. Sustainable development always involves the government and the communities addressing multiple challenges faced by citizens”, he said.
Singida Regional Commissioner, Dr Parseko Kone, assured the UN envoy that the regional leadership will continue promoting sustainable development for the projects so that it can benefit the surrounding community.
“Thousands of Singida residents have benefited from the UN supported projects. I kindly ask for further UN support as the new Sustainable Goals are introduced and UNDAP II starts mid next year together with the Five Development Plan,” Dr Kone pleaded with the UN envoy.
For the last five years, UN agencies have been undertaking various activities to help the people of Tanzania through the support of the UNDAP 2011- 2016.
The projects are jointly funded by the Organization of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the United Nations Aids (UNAIDS).
