Mr Ali Hassan Mwinyi, who is the KIU
Chancellor, made the call during the varsity’s third convocation in
Tanzania, during which he conferred graduands with diplomas and degrees
in various disciplines.
The former president commended the
institution, saying its courses were relevant and fit to the job market
in the country. He urged local and foreign investors to continue
investing in education at different levels and called upon the
government to provide maximum cooperation.
“I commend KIU for investment they have
made in the education sector and I request the government to continue
offering support needed by investors in the sector to enable the country
to have enough experts in various fields,” he said.
The University Vice-Chancellor, Prof
Mohamed Ndaula, said KIU was committed to offer quality education to all
Tanzanians. He said the university has improved its learning
environment and employed competent lecturers with vast experience to
ensure students got the best.
He further noted that KIU in Tanzania
has been awarded its own charter after previously being a constituent
college of Kampala University in Uganda.
Prof Ndaula said the University will
continue to employ local and international lecturers with required
qualifications and experience, stressing that without a good faculty no
university can produce competent students to compete in the job market
including employing themselves.
He said the university’s vision was to
be among the best on the African continent, adding that it would
continue to invest in lecturers and learning environment, academic
facilities, modern libraries and laboratories.
