Kenya National Union of Teachers Secretary-General Wilson Sossion on Tuesday denied that union officials earn almost Sh1 million a month.
He said nobody in the organisation receives a basic salary of above Sh200,000.
“It is a shame that increased mudslinging of Knut on Twitter is a result of our resolve to fight for teachers,” said Mr Sossion on his Twitter account.
He said a fake payslip purported to be circulating on social media had been cooked up by a senior adviser at the Office of the President.
He maintained that the union has proper audited accounts that are approved by its top organs.
Trending under #HypocrisyAtKnut, Kenyans expressed different opinions on the ongoing teachers’ strike.
The job boycott is now in its fifth week.
Jane Kogi @KogiJane said: “Mr Sossion makes 10 times what teachers make from their salaries not allowances that’s why he can’t let go of this strike.”
However, Moshe Dayan @OnyangoMoses2 said: “Mr Sossion is a national leader, representing teachers all over Kenya, do u expect him to earn as a P1 teacher?
