Cord co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka has told off those criticising his development record in Ukambani.
Speaking
in Tseikuru over the weekend, the Wiper leader said the area which was
initially prone to insecurity and banditry attacks can not only feed the
region after establishment of 5,000 acres

Wikithuki Irrigation
Project was a flagship plan established under the Grand Coalition
government with support from Alexandria University.
The project is currently experiencing problems due to delays by the National Irrigation Board (NIB), said Mr Musyoka.
“The
Grand Coalition government looked at infrastructural projects in the
country in terms of equality of opportunity and we identified this
project. We give them (NIB) a notice and even if they fail to support
it, it will continue. We will do everything to ensure our community is
food secure,” said Mr Musyoka.
“This is the future of
this community and this country in terms of food security. The National
Irrigation Board knows that irrigation is not a devolved function and
that is why they have relaxed,” he added.
BUFFER ZONE
He
attributed the prevailing peace in the region to the creation of a
five-kilometre buffer zone between Mwingi and Tana River County.
“Residents never knew peace, they could not sleep inside their houses because they would be attacked by bandits,” he said.
Children
never used to go to school or would be forced to walk for over 10
kilometres to the nearest school but not anymore, he said.
He
added that from the initial two secondary schools in Mwingi North in
1987, there are now more than 50 secondary schools and 200 primary
schools which have been constructed in the region during his tenure as
Kitui North Member of Parliament.
Mr Musyoka, who was
accompanied by World Eminent Chinese Businessmen Association (WECBA)
Goodwill Ambassador Ms Jennifer Lu, said the level of education had
improved tremendously over the years due to increased security after AP
and GSU police camps were established in the region.
Through the China Africa Project Hope, WECBA has sponsored construction and equipping of five primary schools in Mwingi.
Ms Lu donated Sh1 million towards the construction and establishment of a library at Mama Malia Academy.
SEEN WONDERS
Other
schools which have benefitted from the sponsorship are Wikithuki,
Kilanga and Mandongoi (Mwingi North) and Muthungue in Mwingi West.
“We
have seen wonders after the construction of these schools, only that
people cannot understand the far we have come from. We never chose to be
born in a dry region,” said Mr Musyoka.
He announced
the completion of Tseikuru Technical Institute, one of the 10 technical
institutes initiated by the Grand Coalition government, and said it will
soon be launched by the Ministry of Education.
“The narrative has been that Kalonzo did nothing. How can people elect you every time when you have done nothing?
“Now
the technical institute is complete and ready for opening. It is a
national institution and we are going to launch it,” he said.
Mr Musyoka also told off ‘forces’ allegedly disuniting the Kamba community.
“There
is more unity in Ukambani than ever before and the people who are
trying to disunite us will never succeed,” said Mr Musyoka.
