Francis Wangusi has been appointed as the
director-general of the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) for a
term of four years, effective from August 22.
Mr Wangusi, who is the current director-general, beat five
other finalists who had been shortlisted for the position that attracted
29 applicants in the second round of advertisement. The first
advertisement had failed to attract enough applicants forcing the CA
board to re-advertise the position.
“It is during Mr Wangusi tenure that Kenya’s
telecommunication market grew to be rated 3rg largest in Africa. In the
same period Kenya was rated 2nd best among Africa countries in Internet
usage,” CA board chairman Ben Gutuku said in a statement.
Mr Wangusi’s current three year term as the director-general expires on August 22.
The appointment is in line with the Kenya
Communications Amendment Act 2013, which gave the authority’s board
powers to hire the CEO in consultation with the Public Service
