The East African Community has received a Sh97 million grant to boost research that will help hasten the integration process.
The
Africa Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF), has signed the $1 million
grant towards enhancement of research & policy analysis in the
region.
The grant, which was signed by both the East
African Community secretary general Mr Richard Sezibera and ACBF’s
executive secretary Prof Emmanuel Nnadozie is set to increase research
in the region on matters relating to the bloc’s integration agenda.
Speaking
at the signing ceremony, Mr Nnadozie said that the grant will
contribute to engage partner states to help them make informed
decisions.
"It is our hope that the grant will
contribute to revitalize the secretariat’s policy research function
required to effectively engage partner states of EAC on policy
harmonization issues and thus accelerating decisions to be made by the
council of ministers,” he said.
Enhancing the
secretariat’s policy formulation capacity will be critical in the
on-going assessment and operations of the EAC customs union and common
market.
It will also be instrumental in the preparation
for the Monetary Union, in particular the attainment of the
macroeconomic convergence needed for its achievement
