Samsung has set a pre-order retail price of Sh74,999
and Sh89,999 for the yet-to-be launched Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge
respectively for Kenyan customers who order before the April 10 global
launch date
.
.
The global tech giant has added a sweetener of free phone
cover and a wireless charger for customers who pre-order the two phone
models, which will also have a two-year warranty period during which any
manufacturer defect will be repaired for free.
The S6 Edge comes with a storage capacity of 64 GB while the S6 has a 32 GB memory.
“We have begun to receive inquiries for the Galaxy
S6. The appetite for the product is high because of its all new design,
fast camera, inbuilt wireless charging and the fastest processor in the
market,” said the Samsung Electronics East Africa vice president and COO
Robert Ngeru.
Consumers will, however, be disappointed the
accidental damage from handling (ADH) Samsung had introduced for the S4
in 2013 is no longer available.
Other Kenyan mobile vendors have lately entered into a partnership with insurance firms to solve that growing concern.
Airtel Kenya offers a free, two-year insurance
cover for every purchase of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus from its
retail shops.
Airtel’s insurance, which is offered in
collaboration with Kenya Orient, covers the 16GB iPhone 6 which retails
at Sh85,999 and the 64GB iPhone 6 Plus which costs Sh95,999.
Mid last year, technology firm Microsoft also
signed a deal with Kenya Orient to provide a similar insurance cover for
its high-end Nokia smartphones.
The deal covers repairs or replacement of phones
that get damaged either through accidental contact with liquids or
broken screens.
Buyers are required to pay premiums of 1.5 per cent
for a Sh70,000 phone and two per cent for one that costs Sh20,000,
meaning they pay Sh1,050 and Sh400 respectively.
