A brand new Chevrolet car worth Sh5.1 million will be at stake during the 2015 Barclays Kenya Open Golf Championship set for April 9 to 12 at the par-72 Karen Country Club course.
Courtesy of Pewin Motors and General Motors, the car will be up for grabs by the first golfer to hole out in one at the par three-seventh hole during this year’s Open which starts with two Pro-Am curtain-raiser events on April 7 and 8 at the same venue.
In addition to the car, Pewin Motors also presented a cheque of Sh2m to Kenya Open Golf Limited chairman Peter Kanyago on Tuesday.
Speaking on Tuesday, Pewin Motors Managing Director David Kirigua said his company was delighted to be associated with the Kenya Open.
"As the home of Chevrolet brand in Kenya, we are proud to showcase a vehicle that conveys confidence, performance, optimism and possibility," he said.
This is the first time Pewin Motors is being directly involved in the Kenya Open, the premier golfing event in East Africa known for producing future world champions.
"We are keen on spicing up the competition by offering the all-new Chevrolet Trailblazer to a player who will achieve the amazing feat of a hole-in-one shot at the seventh hole."
LONG PARTNERSHIP
Geoffrey Mulandi, General Manager (Sales and Marketing) at General Motors said: "We have been involved in sponsorship of the Open before as well as other local amateur events and we will continue giving our support."
Kanyago thanked Pewin and General Motors for the partnership. "The Kenya Open remains the most popular event in the calendar of the European Tour and your support through the hole-in-one will add more value to the event," said Kanyago.
He said preparations were under way, with the management at Karen Club out to present an excellent course next week.
"The course has been a bit dry over the past few weeks but rains have improved it a great deal," said Kanyago.
The Kenya Open will start with two pro-ams on April 7 and April 8 sponsored by Coca-cola and Barclays Bank respectively. Entry fee for spectators will be Sh500 per person per day and Sh1,000 for a seasonal ticket.
Also present at the ceremony were Pewin Motors chairman Peter Kirigua, Kenya Open Limited Publicity director Kathleen Kihanya and senior managers from both General Motors and Pewin Motors.
