President Uhuru Kenyatta has nominated Joseph Kipchirchir Boinet for the Inspector-General of Police position.

Mr Boinet is the National Intelligence Service (NIS) Principal Intelligence Officer.
The nomination follows the resignation of former IG David Kimaiyo earlier in December. On Wednesday, President Kenyatta appointed Mr Kimaiyo as the chairman of the Kenya Ports Authority
The IG nominee is a career policeman who joined the intelligence service in 1998, the Presidential Strategic Communications Unit (PSCU) said in a statement on Wednesday.
He has two Master's degrees, one in Security Management (Australia) and in Diplomacy from the United States.
The National Assembly is expected to approve Mr Boinet's nomination before he is appointed to the position.
In the meantime, Deputy Inspector-General Samuel Arachi is expected to act as the IG pending Boinet's approval, State House said.
