The Equity Group foundation has invited applications
for 2,000 scholarship positions for students who sat the Kenya
Certificate of Primary Education this year.
The Equity Foundation in partnership with the MasterCard
Foundation, KfW and UKAID— Monday started identifying potential
beneficiaries who excelled in the national examinations, but who are
unable to fund their secondary school studies.
The 2015 Wings to Fly comprehensive scholarship programme is the sixth.
This year’s scholarships will enable the programme
to meet its goal of sponsoring 10,000 beneficiaries a year before the
set date.
The pupils, who have until January 5 to apply, will be picked from every district or sub-county where Equity Bank has a branch.
The minimum mark for candidates eligibility is 350
except for few districts where the score may be lowered based on advice
of the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) if it is established
that using the set standards may exclude deserving applicants.
While making the announcement, Equity Group CEO and
the foundation’s executive chairman, James Mwangi, said the bank was
excited to give more needy pupils a chance to secure secondary
education.
“This is part of our secondary school comprehensive
scholarship initiative which targets 10,000 deserving students by the
year 2015,” he said.
“We have reached that milestone with these 2,000
scholarships ahead of our target date and thanks to our partners, The
MasterCard Foundation, USAid, KfW and UKAid for their support, ” Mr
Mwangi said.
