NSSF pleads with government to improve Kigamboni infrastructure

A request has been made by the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) to ensure that the government fast-truck the construction of Mtoni-Kijichi and Mbagala road connecting Kigambono to tarmac level.

The NSSF has invested heavily in Kigamboni Peninsular in Dar es Salaam including real estate’s housing projects and the multi-million Dege Eco village satellite city project currently under construction.

The firms Principal Public Relations, Eunice Chiume told The Guardian on Sunday that the construction of tarmac roads and bridges connecting Mtoni Kijichi and Mbagala to Kigamboni would spur investment in the area.

She said instead of a 20km distance, residents residing along Kurasin and Mbagara including investors in Kigamboni area will be using 7km to reach the area.

“It is the government obligation to ensure that the roads are built to a tarmac level. This will help house buyers because a smooth infrastructure will play a vital role in promoting investment and settlement in the area.

She added, “Mbagala-Mtoni to Kijichi road is a gateway to our investments in Kigamboni peninsular and this is likely to create different options for residents to reach their destination”
She said the options will include via the bridge, ferry and also through Kijichi and Kongowe road.

According to NSSF Director General Dr Ramadhan Dau the real estate investment in various regions of the country by the firm is aimed at generating income which in turn benefit its members.

He said the projects also aims at providing decent housing to its members through direct purchase or hire purchase and/or loan from Banks as well as encouraging and promoting local contractors’ participation in real estate sector.

“We would like to minimise housing problems in the country and to create employment opportunities to majority Tanzania citizens, he said.

The Project Manager, of the NSSF real estate housing projects in Kigamboni Eng. John Msemo said lack of capital and project management skills for lower class contractors, untimely provision of access to roads and lack of drainage system are some of the major challenging faced in implementing the projects in the area.

NSSF project being implemented in Kigamboni include, the Mtoni Kijichi housing project at the cost of Sh4,5billion that will see the construction of 1120 houses in three phases of 85, 215 and 820.

Dege Eco village is another project being implemented by the firm, that is expected to see more than 7,460 units of houses of which 7,160 are flats houses and 300 villas at a cost of more than $500 million.
