Thika Town MP Alice Ng'ang'a has said
she will soon move a motion seeking to have drug traffickers sentenced
to death if found guilty.
The legislator said if passed by Parliament the new law would have culprits hanged or subjected to a firing squad.
“Time
has come for punitive and deterrent penalties, including capital
punishment to be meted out to those ruining our society especially our
youth with narcotics and other deadly substances,” Ms Ng’ang’a said.
Terming
drug traffickers as mass murderers, the MP hailed President Kenyatta
for ordering the recent destruction of a ship with a Sh1 billion drug
haul and asked Kenyans to fully support his resolve.
The MP hit out at Mombasa Senator Omar Hassan for threatening to take the President to court for sinking the ship.
MASS KILLERS
"These cartels must now be dealt with firmly and decisively since they are mass killers of our people," Ms Ng'ang'a said.
She
was speaking when she presided over the ground-breaking ceremony for
the extension of the Kimuchu Administration Police Post on Wednesday.
At
the same time, Ms Ng’ang’a said half of the Sh17 million Uwezo Fund
allocated to her constituency will go to women groups to help them start
table banking.
Ms Ng'ang'a said that insecurity in
Kiganjo Location, now with an estimated population of over 300,000
people, was a major challenge and added that another police post will be
established in Athena at a cost of Sh4 million.
