The much-anticipated kick-off of Africa’s reality show “Big Brother Africa” has been postponed after a fire burnt down the show’s house in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Tuesday evening.
A massive fire is said to have gutted the house, which is located at the Sasani Studios in the Highlands North section of Johannesburg.
The cause of the fire has not been established, but production companies Endemol South Africa and M-Net confirmed that no one was injured in the incident.
The show has faced a myriad of challenges, with changes in South Africa’s visa regulations even barring selected contestants from Ghana, prompting the companies to source for Ghanaians living in South Africa.
In a statement, the two companies announced that the show will not kick off on Sunday, September 7 as scheduled earlier.
URGENTLY LOOKING FOR ALTERNATIVE HOUSE
“At this stage, M-Net and Endemol are urgently looking for an alternative Big Brother house in which to film the production, however as this production has highly technical infrastructure, camera and edit requirements an alternative is not immediately available,” read the statement in part.
The companies assured fans that a solution would be reached at soon.
“Every effort will be made to find a solution as quickly as possible to ensure that Africa’s biggest reality show will continue,” they said.
The ninth season of the reality show was set to start airing on DStv channels 197 and 198 for the live shows, with highlights running on Africa Magic Showcase channel 150.
Kenya has been represented in the reality show for the last eight episodes, with celebrities such as artist  Prezzo representing the country.
This year’s Kenyan representatives were to be unveiled on Sunday.
