Regency Medical Centre to hold free children diabetic checks every week

Dar es salaam based Regency Medical Centre has organised a free medical camp to mark the hospital’s 16th anniversary.

According to a statement released yesterday by the Chairman of Regency Medical Centre, Dr Rajni Kanabar informed the public, a free juvenile (Paediatric) Diabetic Camp will be held every Friday from morning to evening for the entire month of July starting effectively this Friday.

Dr. Kanabar said the camp will be attended by Consultant Pediatrician and Endocrinologist Dr Rahim Damji at Regency Satellite Clinic on Zanaki Street in Kisutu, Dar es Salaam.

He said a free general diabetic camp will also be held July 13 and then July 27 between 09:00 am and 02:00 pm and will be attended by Consultant Physician and Diabetologist - Dr. Emmanuel Maganga also at the Regency Satellite Clinic premises.

He said for both Diabetic camps, Doctor Consultation and Random Blood sugar checks will be free and those who require 3 months estimation of Blood sugar known as HBA1C (Haemoglycosylated Hemoglobin) which is a true index to detect Diabetes will be done at 50 per cent discount by Regency Lancet Laboratories.

Dr Kanabar said the camp will also afford free eye screening to detect corrective Refractive Errors, Diabetic Retinopathy, Glaucoma, Trachoma and Cataracts.

Also, at least 100 patients with cataracts will be selected for blood less, suture less, latest technology surgery known as Phaco surgery at subsidized rates.

Dr Kanabar also announced that they will soon be launching a Cardiac screening camp to be done by Paediatric and Adult Cardiologists from Fortis Escort Heart Institute, NewDelhi, CIMS Hospital, Ahmedabad, and Narayana Hospital, Bangalore.

He said 100 cases of Surgically Repairable Heart Defects will be selected and will be sent for Heart Surgery at very subsidized rates thanks to auspicious financial support from the Lions Club of Dar es Salaam.
