Nation Media Group (NMG) has unveiled a mobile application that will allow readers to get an electronic version of the Business Daily on the go.
The Business Daily e-paper is available for
smartphones and tablet computers on Android and iOS platforms and will
soon be on Windows operating system as well.
The launch of the Business Daily e-paper comes barely a year after NMG in partnership with Safaricom launched another application to allow its readers to access the Daily Nation through tablets.
At the moment, readers get the e-paper version of the Business Daily
free of charge. To get started readers need to download the app on
their tablets and smartphones to access latest news and archived
information.
Wilson Muirani, Digital Division brand manager,
said that for the print business, the app means that the circulation
numbers for the paper will increase and this would also add value to
advertisers because they would reach more people.
“The Business Daily newspaper has been the
leading source of business news in Kenya and the region,” he said. “Now
that it’s available globally, it plays a pivotal role in informing
potential foreign investors of the business environment in Kenya and the
region.”
The adoption of the e-paper serves to complement
other NMG products and offers readers convenience and faster access to
current news.
“We have installations from users from across the
world, and our brand and content is reaching more and more people,” he
added. “Enhancements will be carried out continuously on the app, with
multimedia and live business events coverage capabilities to be released
shortly.”
NMG has been keen to capitalise on the growing
uptake of technology to reach more readers. In the last one year, the
company has developed a number of technologies for its customers — the
most recent being NationHela.
The money transfer service got NMG nominated in
the Forbes Africa Magazine as one of the top 10 most innovative
companies in Africa, primarily on its digital platform. The adoption of
e-paper is gaining traction as publishers tap opportunities presented by
technology to meet dynamic consumer needs and lifestyle.
