Young adults in the western Kenya have been urged to get identity cards to vote in the future elections.
Bungoma
senator-elect Moses Wetang’ula said although the region had the second
largest ethnic group in the country, their numerical strength would not
have any impact due to their apathy to register as voters.
In
an apparent reaction to a political strategy embraced by President
Kenyatta and his deputy, Mr William Ruto, to rally their communities
behind them in the last polls, the Cord leader was optimistic that with a
united western in support of one of their own, they would have a
stronger bargaining power in the 2017 elections.
Mr Wetang’ula was speaking in Nakuru at the weekend when he met officials representing the Luhya community in the county.
They were led by their chairman, Mr Javan Chiteri.
POLITICAL EMPOWEREMENT
The Ford Kenya party leader was accompanied by Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa.
“It
is also prudent for the Luhya to join Ford Kenya so as to give it a
boost as it embraces other Kenyans to promote political empowerment and
economic development,” he said
