Ngilu’s appointees get PSC greenlight

The Public Service Commission on Wednesday approved seven officials appointed by Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu.

Mrs Ngilu had proposed the names to replace officials who were ejected and transferred to other ministries.

The approval came even as PSC was summoned to appear in court today after one of the transferred officers protested the move.

On Wednesday, Public Service Commission chairperson Margaret Kobia told the Nation that they had given appointment letters to the appointees, and that they would be reporting to work with immediate effect.

“They will serve in acting capacity. We went through their credentials and found them fit to serve in those positions. The commission will advertise the positions officially after three months,” she said.

Dr Kobia said applicants for the jobs would be subjected to through interviews and vetting.

“The ministry of Lands is very sensitive and everything will be done thoroughly,” she said.

The chairperson also dismissed the court order, saying: “We have already given out the appointment letters and the orders have been overtaken by events.”

The officers ejected by Mrs Ngilu included the Lands secretary, Mr Zablon Mabea, the Director of Survey, Mr Ephantus Murage and his deputy, Mr Boaz Owino.

The three have been transferred to the Interior ministry.

Others who were affected by Mrs Ngilu’s move were Chief Lands Registrar Cyrus Ngatia, who was moved to the Attorney-General’s office as was Ms Elizabeth Gicheha, a senior assistant Commissioner of Lands.

Ms Rosina Mule and Mr Joram Kimemia, both assistant commissioners of lands, were transferred to the ministries of Devolution and Foreign Affairs, respectively.
