LAS VEGAS
Kenya’s
sevens team is ready to take on the best in the world at the fourth
round of the IRB Sevens series in Las Vegas, Kenya Rugby Union chairman Mwangi Muthee has said.
Speaking
to a large crowd of enthusiastic Kenyan rugby fans on Thursday at the
Hard Rock Café in Las Vegas during the fifth Annual Meet and Greet and
official Rugby Sevens welcome reception, Mr Muthee said the team has
worked hard to prepare for the games that begin on Friday at the Sam
Boyd Stadium.
“Our boys have done everything that is
humanly possible in preparing for these games. They are aware that you
Kenyans in North America and looking up to them to carry our flag high.
They are aware that 40 million-plus Kenyans back at home will be glued
to their television sets watching them play. They won’t let you down,”
said the KRU chairman.
Speaking at the same function,
Kenya’s acting ambassador to the US Jean Kamau asked the Kenyan fans to
turn up in large numbers to cheer the Kenyan team. “The whole world, and
indeed rugby fans around here know us as the loudest and we would like
to maintain that tradition. As you party tonight, remember to show up at
the stadium in your thousands to cheer on our team,” she said.
The
reception was organised by the Kenyan embassy in collaboration with
Kenyans Connect and was sponsored by Kenya Commercial Bank, Kenya
Diaspora Sacco and UAP Insurance, among others.
