The Senate has summoned governors from 10 counties after the Council of Governors snubbed an invitation to appear before a House committee.

Finance, Commerce and Economic Affairs Committee chairman Billow Kerrow said the 10 devolved units had the most concerns raised in a report by the Controller of Budget on their spending in the first quarter of this financial year.

Among them is Bomet County, whose boss Isaac Rutto is the chairman of the Council of Governors.
Others are Bungoma, Kiambu, Tana River, Wajir, Narok, Kitui, Nakuru, Kisumu and Embu.
Mr Kerrow said among the issues raised against Bomet was spending in excess of the amounts approved by the Controller of Budget.

The county also secured a Sh36.5 million overdraft without approval from relevant organisations. The amount was not used in a prudent way.
