The industrial court has lifted a arrest
warrant against National Bank of Kenya managing director Munir Ahmed
for alleged contempt of court.
Industrial court judge Maureen Onyango granted the order lifting the execution of a warrant of his arrest on Friday.
Mr
Munir alongside the Aviation and Airport Services Workers Union‘s
chairperson Perpetua M’ponjiwa, secretary-general Bonne Nicholas Barasa
and the treasurer Robert Lichoro were to be arrested for alleged
misappropriation of Sh3.8 million and defying court orders.
Mr
Munir’s lawyer had moved to court to challenge the warrant issued on
the eve of Christmas, a day after the National Bank CEO allegedly failed
to comply with a court order freezing the account of the union with the
bank’s Harambee Avenue branch.
Justice Maureen’s move
comes just two days after she granted an order for the execution, with
immediate effect, of warrant of arrests issued against the four.
The
freeze order was issued by Industrial Court judges Nduma Nderi on
December 4 and James Rika on December 17 in the presence of the Union‘s
top three officials who are the account’s key signatories. The dispute
involves alleged misappropriation of the Union funds.
The Union’s lawyer had sought to have Mr Ahmed and three officials of the Union arrested and charged with contempt of court.
